I’m Stephanie, the founder of Simple Suppers, and a wife, mom and full-time professional in the Chicago suburbs. I’ve enjoyed cooking most of my life. I remember when I was seven years old and my aunts would come stay with us - I lived with my grandparents - and bake and cook with me. In high school, one of my best friends and I dubbed ourselves the “Cookie Bandits” and used to bake and decorate cookies for hours and deliver them to people’s houses late at night - such rebels! I remember cooking for a double date with another close friend in high school and it being a disaster; homemade pasta is SO tricky. In college I started hosting small dinner parties, which continue to this day. Cooking and sharing meals together has been a cornerstone in my relationship with my now-husband since we met, and is a priority for our family. Even at 3 years old and 5 years old, I am amazed at how much our kids enjoy our time around the dinner table as a family.
I didn’t see it then, but now it’s so clear - for me, cooking has always been about bringing people together. Whether we are creating food together, or eating it together, I have made and shared food with people I love for over 30 years. I’ve also realized why the idea of opening a restaurant never appealed to me. I’m an introvert and I reserve my energy and love for people who are very close to me. And that’s what my food is - energy and love.
I’m self-taught from the school of trial & error. I’ve made so many terrible dishes! I’ve also learned a LOT. As life has changed over the years, I’ve adjusted my cooking style and methods. I’ve come up with shortcuts, recipes, tips and tricks so that cooking continues to be something I always have time for, because bringing my family and friends together to eat is one way I show my love.
The methods I have developed for cooking since becoming a mom are the ones that have been the most life-changing. And that’s what Simple Suppers is all about: bringing more families together for dinner more often through tips, tricks, recipes, shortcuts and resources, and ultimately through our dinner kits.
My mission is for more families to experience dinner together more often and to experience the benefits that we know comes with sharing meals, including improved behavior, academics, social relationships and development for children. And by having a portion of Simple Suppers that is product-based and brings in revenue, I can donate to not-for-profit organizations that share a similar mission.
